Penance Services for Advent

One of the means of our Advent preparations for Christ’s coming that we celebrate at Christmas is celebrating the Sacrament of Penance. In Penance we prepare the way to welcome Christ to the home of our hearts by ridding ourselves of all that is sinful in our lives. This Advent because of the COVID pandemic, Pope Francis has given Bishops permission to grant the ability for priests to celebrate the form of Penance known as general absolution. Archbishop Hebda has extended this permission to pastors/parochial administrators in our Archdiocese as a means for people to receive absolution and forgiveness of sins, but without individual confession that could be a means of COVD spread. Our tri-parish community will celebrate this form of Penance as listed below. Please know that parishioners of any of the three parishes, can attend any of the three Penance Services.

  • Saturday, December 12 at 10:00 am at St. Mathias in Hampton (Please note that there will not be 9:00 am drive through confession on this day)
  • Sunday, December 13 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s in New Trier
  • Sunday, December 13 at 4:00 pm at St. John the Baptist in Vermillion
